Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY)
Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an empirically validated clinical intervention for complex trauma or chronic treatment resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). TCTSY differs from typical Western yoga classes in that it is grounded in not just yoga theory, but also neuroscience, attachment, & trauma theory. This theoretical foundation is what informed the development of the 5 central tenants of TCTSY- invitational language, choice-making, interoception/present moment experience, shared authentic experience, and non-coercion. Practically, this means when engaging in a TCTSY session whether one-on-one with Lauren or as a group, Lauren’s focus is on creating an environment that allows for the participants to feel safe and empowered to choose what movements or not they engage in. As a TCTSY-F, Lauren does not use any hand on assists, nor is the focus on physical exercise or strengthening but rather on creating an environment and practice that allows participants to engage in reclaiming their own bodies and relationship to self.
